Gov Bello describes Tawari killiing as barbaric, assures community of justice

Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello has described the overnight attack and killings in Tawari community as gruesome and barbaric while he described it actors as cowards who chose to hide in the cover of darkness to attack innocent people in their sleep.

The Governor who on Saturday paid an on the spot asssessment to the community assured the people of Tawari and neigbouring communities of prompt arrest of the perpetrators of such despicable act.

Governor Bello who was represented by the Deputy Governor Chief Edward Onoja noted that security operatives have been given a matching order to fish out the culprits and ensure that justice was served.

The governor expressed that the people of Tawari community were peace loving and were not known to be trouble makers in any regards. He said only those under demonic influences could gather such courage to sniff life out of a fellow human.

He promised that such event would never re-occur as the New Direction Government was keen on nipping it to the board as it did in similar occurrences in some other parts of the state in previous times.

Governor Bello promised that the State would collaborate alongside other high spirited Nigerians to help rebuild the community and resstle the people in an effort to defeat the intentions of the coward actors whose intent was to strike fear in the minds of the dwellers and chase them out of their town.

In a condolence visit to the Palace of the Ohimege of kotonkarfee, Alhaji Abdulrasaq Isah Koto , the Governor comended the efforts of the traditional ruler in maintaining peace and unity within the area.

He noted that he has witnessed the devastation caused by the overnight cowardice attack in Tawari community stating that government would do its very best to unravel the mystery.

The Governor urged the traditional ruler and the people not to be discouraged or despaired while he opined that security remained everyone’s responsibility. He called on Kogites to be vigilant and report any suspicious events promptly to relevant authorities.

The Ohimege in his response thanked the state government for the quick response noting that such occurrence has never happened within Kogi LGA in a long time.

He said that the Local government shared boarders with Nassarawa, Niger and the FCT pointing out that adequate security was required in such area as fleeing insurgents from the North East were finding their way into some of these areas.

He stated that preliminary findings have revealed that the attack was not sponsored by any ethnic group, warning that people should desist from giving ethnic coloration to the unfortunate act.

Speaking with an eye witness Miss Abigail Ezra noted that the killers who came in their large numbers went around different residents to implement their heinous intentions.

She opined that the actors went after young men in the community while they also killed an old Imam, an APC stalwart as they burnt the traditional ruler’s palace, church, school, hospital, cars and residential buildings

Eye witness reported that twenty four lives were lost while five persons were currently admitted and two earlier discharged from the Federal Medical Center, Lokoja

As at the time of report security operatives including the Nigeria Army, Navy, Police, NSCDC and Local vigilantes were stationed in the area to forestall re occurrence and maintain peace and order.
