Tribunal verdict on Kogi Election: NYCN Coordinators Forum lauds judgement
The Forum of Coordinators of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Kogi State has applauded the objectivity and bravery of members of the Kogi State Election Petition Tribunal to do the right thing by declaring in favour of the incumbent Governor Yahaya Bello and his deputy, Chief Edward Onoja.
Chairman of the Forum, Comrade Obas Adesina who made the statement in an interview with journalists in Lokoja said the judgement was apt in view of the landslide victory recorded by the winners.
He said youths of the state are particularly happy because they played a critical role to ensure the victory of the APC because they had a sense of belonging under the current administration.
Comrade Adesina who further described the judgement as a victory for democracy and the rule of law, stressed that there was no doubt about how the ‘judicial battle’ was going to pan out because the opposition were going to play to the gallery and attempt to guilt trip the brilliant justices into favouring them.
He said as someone that followed the proceedings step by step from the beginning, he knew the opposition had no case from onset because the election was a free and fair one.
“The result is there for everyone to see. It was a landslide because the formation deployed by the APC, which was about reaching every part of state was something the opposition could not match.
“They had no answer to the calculation and the entire youth of the state were also behind the government. In fact, the youth council had its own independent campaign council which was made up of the youths from the 21 LGAs of the state. That it was going to be a clean sweep for the Governor and his deputy was never in doubt.”
While urging the opposition to close ranks with the Governor to move the state forward, Comrade Adesina stressed that it is the level of sacrifice they were ready to make that proves if they had the masses at heart or not.
