Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has flagged off the distribution of food baskets and Kings Soya Oil donated by Qatar Charity in Nigeria to support 500 vulnerable persons, including Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), in the state.

The initiative, launched in Lokoja on Wednesday, is aimed at providing food relief to less privileged residents and helping vulnerable families meet their basic nutritional needs.

Ododo, who was represented at the ceremony by his deputy, Joel Salifu, thanked Qatar Charity for the donation, describing it as a demonstration of the organisation’s commitment to humanitarian service and the welfare of disadvantaged people.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reducing hardship, improving living conditions and ensuring that vulnerable residents were not left behind.

He said partnerships with humanitarian organisations and development partners remained important in complementing government efforts to provide assistance to disadvantaged members of society.

Ododo also directed the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation and other officials responsible for the distribution to ensure that the donated items reached the intended beneficiaries transparently, fairly and without discrimination.

He called on other organisations, well-meaning Kogites and development partners to support the state’s humanitarian initiatives and contribute to improving the welfare of vulnerable residents.

The governor expressed hope that the donation would provide meaningful relief to beneficiary families and strengthen collaboration between the Kogi State Government and Qatar Charity in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Rabietu Okute, thanked Qatar Charity for supporting less privileged persons in the state.

Okute assured the organisation that her ministry would continue to work with donors and humanitarian groups to provide assistance to vulnerable residents.

She also pledged that the donated food baskets and Kings Soya Oil would reach the intended beneficiaries.

Similarly, Nuhu Albee Musa, Welfare Officer I of Qatar Charity Nigeria, who represented the organisation’s Country Director, thanked the state government for accepting the organisation’s request to establish a partnership.

Musa said Qatar Charity had operated in Nigeria for about six years, providing support to vulnerable people, sponsoring students, assisting Internally Displaced Persons and building houses for less privileged families.

He disclosed that the current intervention would initially benefit 500 persons, expressing optimism that the partnership with the Kogi State Government would lead to further humanitarian interventions.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Fatima Yakubu thanked Qatar Charity for supporting less privileged families at a time when many households needed assistance.

She also commended Governor Ododo for partnering with organisations that provide relief to poor and vulnerable residents.
