Flooding: 8,540 farmers in Kogi to get relief from NEMA »

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is set to begin the distribution of agricultural inputs on behalf of the federal government to no fewer than 8,540 farmers in Kogi State, as a result of flood disaster in 2020.

This was disclosed on Tuesday by NEMA delegation already in the state to kick start the exercise.

Received by the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja who is also the Chairman, Kogi State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Labaran Aman, leader of the NEMA delegation sympathized with the government and people of Kogi State following the losses incurred during flood incidents, adding that the team is in Kogi to provide relief to enumerated farmers affected by the 2020 flooding.

Aman said although some of the relief materials to be distributed are currently incomplete due to logistics issues, he however confirmed that the exercise is in fulfilment of FG commitment to assist farmers who were victims of the disaster, with the assurances that the remaining materials would be distributed as soon as they are received.

On his part, the Deputy Governor, Edward Onoja said the state government had made concerted efforts to ensure that victims of any disaster receive prompt attention, assuring that they would sustain the cordial relationship existing between the government and NEMA.

Onoja appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari for always coming through for disaster victims and said it goes a long way in providing sucur to the affected.

He said Governor Yahaya Bello is reputed for his transparency in handling issues, urging the NEMA team to be sincere in ensuring that the relief gets to the intended beneficiaries because it will make them happy and appreciative of the president’s effort in reaching out.

While assuring the team of adequate security during their stay, the Deputy Governor cautioned against diversion and insisted that proper audit be carried out to ascertain the total number of materials available and those being expected.

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Chief of Staff to the governor, Hon. Sunday Faleke, the Executive Secretary of SEMA, Sunday Abari and others.
