Chief Onoja commends NGO for campaign against drug abuse
Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Chief Edward Onoja has called on stakeholders not to relent on the fight against drug abuse because it is destroying lives and destinies especially those of youths, who are tomorrow’s leaders.
Onoja gave this charge when he received on courtesy visit, Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA), a None Governmental Organization based in Abuja.
The organization with a 120 bed space capacity drug rehabilitation center is commemorating the World Drug Day with a 2 Day Sensitization on Drug Abuse Prevention for over 60 CSOs and NGOs across the state.
The Deputy Governor commended VGADA, for assisting in redirecting the young people who have been trapped in the social disaster of drug abuse. He stated that drug and substance abuse are correlated with the high rate of insecurity in Nigeria, adding that it is evident in the revelations by law enforcement agents whenever they uncover the hideouts of the perpetrators of these crimes.
Onoja stressed that apart from the influence and drive for ransom, drug is the other force that can make a human being capture his fellow humans forcefully, take them into the bush and mete out extreme wickedness on them.
While the Deputy Governor acknowledges the excellent results emanating from the organization’s rehabilitation center in Abuja, he stated that he has also referred a patient to that facility. He pledged to always support the organization in ways possible that will help further the campaign against drug abuse.
Earlier, the President of Vanguard Against Drug Abuse (VGADA), Dr Hope Omeiza, appreciated the deputy governor for receiving the team and for his commitment towards reshaping the destiny of youths from the trap of drugs. He highlighted the various projects embarked upon since it’s commencement in 2018, adding that they will continue to increase the awareness against drug abuse and provide help to victims.
