Ofu LG Chair, Hassan Atawodi pays unscheduled visit to primary healthcare centre in Ugwolawo

In what can be termed “a surprise visit,” the Chairman of Ofu Local Government Area, Hon. Hassan Atawodi, has ‘invaded’ the healthcare centre in Ofu Local Government Area unannounced. The visit was made immediately after the security meeting at the local government headquarters.

The aim of the visit is to assess the centre and find ways to improve service delivery and manpower for quality assessment and implementation of basic health care in the local government area.

Speaking to the health officials at the centre, the chairman expressed disappointment at the level of infrastructural decay and low service delivery. “Health is wealth,” and our people deserve a good health care system. In your part, you know what “hippocratic oat” means. You must ensure that my people enjoy quality healthcare delivery. I understand the challenges on the part of the government, but we can collectively overcome those challenges. I have come to assist you in revamping this system for the betterment of us all. I need you to come up with an initiative that will help our old and young have routine medical checkups. As peasant farmers and business people, they may be so overwhelmed with activities to the extent that they may not remember to pay attention to their health,” the chairman opined.

Hon. Hassan Atawodi noted that the state government had already put in motion several activities on BHCPF, saying the participants would go back to the point of service delivery and assess the quality of services being rendered.

”The assessors at the state and local government levels will now give us feedback so that we will know where to adjust and improve,” he asserted.

He added that he is aware that the agency is also building the capacity of a pool of trainers who will support health facilities in the development of quality improvement and business plans based on findings from the quality-of-care assessment.

The executive chairman is optimistic that the participants will be very upright, take the training very seriously, go back to their various areas, and do the right thing for society.

In his response, the director of the health care centre thanked the newly appointed chairman for his visit. He further explains that one of the setbacks faced by the centre is manpower. He was pleased with the chairman for promising them intervention in this regard. Another basic challenge is the availability of adequate drugs. In his response, the active chairman promised to fix all the mentioned setbacks as soon as possible.
