Nig At 65: Governor Ododo Urges National Unity, Patriotism

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has congratulated Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary, urging citizens to embrace unity, patriotism, and shared responsibility in building a prosperous nation.

In a message to the people of Kogi State and Nigerians at large, Governor Ododo described Independence Day as more than a symbolic date, noting that it reflects the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and the resilience of its people.

“Independence Day is a call to patriotism, unity, and the collective responsibility of building a nation that guarantees peace, justice, and prosperity for all,” the Governor said.

While celebrating the milestone, Ododo expressed sadness over the recent boat mishap in Ibaji Local Government Area of the state, which claimed several lives. He sympathized with the families of the victims, assuring that his administration would intensify efforts to improve safety in riverine communities.

The Governor also highlighted his administration’s commitment to human capital and infrastructural development in Kogi State, stressing reforms in healthcare, education, agriculture, and security. He noted that the state has made basic education compulsory, while also prioritizing girl-child education through the provision of free schooling and cash transfers under the AGILE programme.

“As Nigerians, let us use this day to renew our love for our country, to shun division, and to rise above fear and doubt. The destiny of this nation is in our hands,” Ododo stated.

Governor Ododo further commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his ongoing reforms, describing them as bold steps that are already yielding positive results for the nation.

He prayed for the continued peace and progress of Kogi State and Nigeria, reaffirming his administration’s determination to make the state a “Confluence of Opportunities.”
