Forum of Special Advisers Announces Death of Hon. James Onoja
The Forum of Special Advisers to the Governor of Kogi State has announced the death of Hon. James Onoja, a former Chairman of Igala-Mela/Odolu Local Government Area and serving Zonal Security Adviser to the Governor.
In a statement issued on Sunday, January 11, 2026, by its Chairman, Omoluabi Bode Adeyemi, MNIPR, the forum said Hon. Onoja passed away in the early hours of the day after a brief illness.
Until his death, Hon. Onoja was the Special Adviser on Statistics and a member of the Forum of Special Advisers to the Governor. He was also described as a dedicated stakeholder of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who contributed significantly to the growth and development of Kogi State.
The statement highlighted his background as an active student leader and the pioneer President of the Students’ Union Government at Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba. He was also noted as a prominent youth leader in Kogi East Senatorial District and an outstanding administrator during his tenure as Chairman of Igala-Mela/Odolu Local Government Area.
The forum expressed deep sorrow over his passing, describing the loss as irreparable, while noting that it takes solace in the exemplary life, legacy of service, and impact he made during his lifetime.
The Forum of Special Advisers extended its condolences to the immediate family of the deceased, the people of Igala-Mela/Odolu Local Government Area, the APC family, the Kogi State Government, and the entire people of the state. According to the statement, burial arrangements will be announced later after consultations with the family.
Hon. Onoja was described as a committed public servant whose contributions to governance and community development will be long remembered.
