Kogi LG Chairmen Sworn In, Ododo Tasks Them on Security, Accountability

Kogi LG chairmen sworn in as Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo issues directives on security and accountability.

The newly elected Kogi State local government chairmen were sworn in at the Government House in Lokoja on Wednesday, October 21, 2026.

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has charged the newly sworn-in chairmen of the state’s 21 local government areas to strengthen rural security, ensure transparency in the management of public funds and prioritise grassroots development.

Ododo gave the directive on Wednesday through his deputy, Joel Salifu, during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Glass House, Government House, Lokoja, on October 21, 2026.

The governor urged the council chairmen to work closely with security agencies, traditional rulers and community leaders to protect lives and property, warning that no community in the state should be abandoned to criminal activities.

He also called on the elected officials to prioritise rural roads, primary healthcare, basic education and environmental sanitation, while implementing programmes that create opportunities for youths and women.

Ododo congratulated the chairmen on their election and thanked the people of Kogi State for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC), which, according to him, won all chairmanship and councillorship seats across the state’s 21 local government areas and 239 wards.

He described the party’s electoral victory as a call to greater service, urging the council leaders to justify the confidence placed in them by delivering on their campaign promises.

The governor further emphasised the need for transparency and responsibility in managing public funds, urging the chairmen to remain humble, accessible and fair in their dealings with residents, regardless of political differences.

On the political outlook ahead of the 2027 general and State House of Assembly elections, Ododo expressed confidence in continued support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC candidates.

He also commended Tinubu’s leadership and commitment to development through the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Ododo assured the newly inaugurated chairmen of the state government’s support for grassroots development and wished them success in their tenure.

The inauguration marks the beginning of a new phase in local government administration in Kogi State, with the council chairmen expected to improve rural security, promote accountable governance and ensure that public services reach communities across the state.
