Please forgive me, Muri Ajaka begs Yahaya Bello
Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the November 2023 Kogi State governorship election, has appealed for forgiveness from former Governor Yahaya Bello, calling for reconciliation and unity in the state.
In a statement issued on May 4, 2026, Ajaka said the political disagreements between him and Bello during the heated election period were not personal but driven by differing convictions and the dynamics of the contest.
The former governorship candidate expressed deep regret over any offence his words or actions may have caused, offering what he described as a “profound apology” in the spirit of peace and reconciliation.
Ajaka noted that the 2023 election remains a significant moment in the state’s political history, adding that his ambition to lead was rooted in a desire to promote inclusiveness, justice, and progress in Kogi State.
He also paid tribute to supporters who lost their lives during the electioneering process, describing their sacrifices as unforgettable and calling for prayers for their families.
According to him, the aftermath of the election created divisions that must now be healed for the overall development of the state.
“In the overriding interest of peace, unity, and the progress of our dear state, I have chosen to let go of all grievances and move forward with a clear heart,” he stated.
Ajaka urged political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to prioritise unity over personal ambitions, stressing that no individual interest should outweigh the peace and stability of Kogi State.
He reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people and working towards a more united and prosperous state, emphasizing the need for collaboration across political divides.
