Zango Residents Hail Gov Ododo After Delivery of 500KVA Transformer in Four Days

Residents and traders at Timber Garage, Zango Daji in Lokoja have commended Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for fulfilling his promise to provide a new electricity transformer within four days, describing him as a leader who keeps his word.

The commendation followed the delivery of a brand-new 500KVA transformer to the community on Tuesday, exactly four days after the Governor pledged to replace the damaged transformer that had left the area and the Timber Market without electricity for about three months.

Governor Ododo had made the commitment on Friday, July 3, while en route to inspect the Lokoja–Zango Road and supervise the enforcement exercise against tax-evading miners. During the visit, he stopped to interact with residents, who appealed to him over the prolonged blackout caused by a faulty transformer.

Responding to their concerns, the Governor assured the community that a replacement transformer would be delivered within four days—a promise he fulfilled on schedule.

Presenting the transformer on behalf of the Governor, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Muhammed Abdulmutalib, represented by his Technical Assistant, Alhaji Isah Hussaini Sule, said the intervention reflected Governor Ododo’s commitment to improving the welfare of citizens through the provision of critical infrastructure.

He noted that the new transformer would improve electricity supply, boost commercial activities, strengthen security, and support the socio-economic development of the community.

The Commissioner’s representative also urged residents to protect the transformer from vandalism, stressing that safeguarding the facility would ensure uninterrupted service for the benefit of present and future generations.

The arrival of the transformer sparked celebrations across the Timber Market, with beneficiaries expressing appreciation for what they described as responsive and people-centred leadership.

President of the Timber Market Association, Mr. Victor Ojukwu, said the community was “100 percent happy,” noting that Governor Ododo had demonstrated a rare commitment to fulfilling promises.

According to him, many residents initially doubted that the transformer would be delivered within the promised timeframe, but the Governor exceeded expectations by delivering exactly as pledged.

He explained that traders had suffered significant losses during the three-month blackout, relying on expensive diesel-powered generators to sustain their businesses.

Ojukwu expressed optimism that the restoration of electricity would reduce operating costs, revive commercial activities, and improve the livelihoods of hundreds of traders.

He also assured the state government that the Timber Market Association would take full responsibility for protecting the transformer against vandalism.

Another beneficiary, Madam Bosede Mesicko, recalled that a woman from the community had stopped the Governor’s convoy to passionately appeal for government intervention over the prolonged power outage.

She said Governor Ododo listened attentively and assured residents that a new transformer would be delivered on Tuesday, adding that many people found the promise difficult to believe until it was fulfilled.

Describing the Governor as a leader who “talks and acts,” she offered prayers for his continued wisdom, protection, and success in office.

Madam Mesicko added that the Governor’s prompt response had strengthened public confidence in his administration, expressing optimism that his performance would attract overwhelming support from the electorate in the 2027 governorship election.

Residents said the delivery of the 500KVA transformer represented more than the restoration of electricity, describing it as evidence of a government that responds promptly to the needs of its people.

A similar intervention was also recorded in the Crusher community, where the provision of electricity infrastructure by the state government reportedly sparked widespread celebration among residents.
