Maigari of Lokoja Backs Kogi Government’s Campaign Against Human Trafficking
The Maigari of Lokoja, His Royal Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo Kabir Maikarfi IV, has pledged his support for the Kogi State Government’s efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable members of society.
The royal father made the commitment when the Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Human Trafficking, Hon. Amodu Avosuahi Patience, paid a courtesy visit to his palace as part of ongoing familiarisation and advocacy engagements aimed at strengthening the fight against human trafficking in the state.
During the visit, Hon. Amodu drew attention to the growing threat posed by human trafficking and its devastating impact on individuals, families and communities. She stressed the need for sustained public awareness and collective action to prevent trafficking, protect vulnerable persons and support efforts to address the challenges associated with the crime.
She also stressed the strategic role of traditional institutions in the fight against human trafficking, noting that traditional rulers are uniquely positioned to mobilise communities, disseminate vital information and promote awareness at the grassroots.
Responding, the Maigari of Lokoja expressed keen interest in the initiative and commended the Senior Special Assistant for her efforts towards addressing the menace of human trafficking in Kogi State.
The monarch assured the delegation of his full support and pledged to work closely with the Office of the Senior Special Assistant on Human Trafficking by using the traditional institution as a platform for public sensitisation and community mobilisation.
He emphasised the importance of collaboration among government agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders in tackling human trafficking and safeguarding vulnerable members of society.
The engagement ended on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to building stronger partnerships and intensifying awareness campaigns against human trafficking across Lokoja and Kogi State.
The visit forms part of broader advocacy and stakeholder engagement efforts by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Human Trafficking to deepen community participation and strengthen the collective response to human trafficking in the state.
