Kogi East APC Leaders Back Tinubu, Ododo for 2027 »

Political leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kogi East Senatorial District have endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for re-election in 2027, while calling for a negotiated and peaceful framework for power rotation in the state.

The position was contained in a communiqué issued after the Kogi East APC Strategic Leadership Conference held in Abuja on Monday, August 3, 2026. The conference was chaired by retired Major General Patrick Ademu Akpa.

The stakeholders said they would mobilise support across the nine local government areas of Kogi East to secure victory for President Tinubu, Governor Ododo and APC legislative candidates in the 2027 general elections.

They described the district as Kogi State’s largest voting bloc, recalling that it recorded the highest share of votes for President Tinubu among the state’s three senatorial districts during the 2023 presidential election. The group also acknowledged what it described as the President’s goodwill towards Kogi East through appointments of indigenes into key federal positions.

Beyond electoral mobilisation, the conference called for dialogue among Kogi East, Kogi Central and Kogi West to establish what it described as a transparent, predictable and equitable framework for power rotation.

The communiqué stated: “We call for an immediate shift toward building consensus, renegotiating power transfer and rotation, and establishing an inclusive, development-driven agenda that guarantees equitable access to the instruments of power.”

It added that Kogi East should be recognised as a major political bloc prepared to engage constructively in future political negotiations.

The stakeholders also raised concerns over what they described as a two-decade infrastructure deficit in Kogi East, saying the region requires accelerated investment in road networks and public infrastructure.
According to the communiqué, the region has experienced years of neglect and internal political divisions following the death of former Governor Prince Abubakar Audu, a situation the group said had slowed development.

The conference resolved to engage both the Federal Government and the Kogi State Government to pursue infrastructure projects and other development initiatives across the district, while drawing inspiration from projects executed during Prince Audu’s administration, including the establishment of the state’s first university in Anyigba, major road projects and industrial investments.

Among other resolutions, the stakeholders pledged to strengthen internal reconciliation within Kogi East after years of political disagreements and advocated the institutionalisation of a non-partisan Prince Abubakar Audu Leadership Foundation.

They also urged the Federal Government to confer a national honour on the late former governor in recognition of his contributions to Kogi State and Nigeria.

The communiqué was signed by 26 prominent Kogi East leaders, including Conference Chairman Major General Patrick Ademu Akpa (Rtd), Ambassador Isaac A. Onu, Rt. Hon. Ismaila Inna Hussani, Rt. Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Egwu, Hajia Salamatu Baiwa Umar-Eluma, AIG Abutu Iyaro (Rtd), Dr. Sani Teidi, Hon. Dan Okolo, Abdulahi Haruna (SAN), Dr. Johnson Musa, Prof. Aliyu Idris, Dr. Tom Diche, Hajia Mariam Yakubu, Hajia Hassanat Abubakar and Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Ainoko, alongside 11 other stakeholders.
