Late Ibrahim Idris’ Family Thanks Kogi Government, Pledges Burial Cooperation
Deputy Governor Joel Salifu Oyibo leads Kogi State Burial Committee members during a visit to the family of late former Governor Ibrahim Idris.
The family of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, has thanked the Kogi State Government for its support following his death and pledged full cooperation with the government ahead of his burial.
The family made the commitment when members of the Burial Committee constituted by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo visited the family as preparations for the former governor’s burial continue.
The Head of the Family, Alhaji Haruna Idris, received the committee, which is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Comrade Joel Salifu Oyibo.
Haruna expressed appreciation to Governor Ododo and the state government for the support extended to the family, particularly the decision to take full responsibility for the burial of the former governor.
He said the family was grateful for the assistance at a difficult time and assured the Burial Committee of its readiness to work closely with the government to ensure a befitting burial for Ibrahim Idris.
Speaking during the visit, Oyibo described the death of the former governor as a major loss to Kogi State, noting that Ibrahim Idris was widely respected.
“It is a huge loss to the entire State. We have lost a colossus and a leader who was loved and respected by all. As a Government, we will give him a befitting State burial,” the Deputy Governor said.
Oyibo also assured the family that the state government would work with it to put in place the necessary arrangements for a dignified burial in honour of the late former governor.
Following the formal interaction, members of the Burial Committee and representatives of Ibrahim Idris’ family held a closed-door meeting to discuss family matters and arrangements for the burial.
Members of the committee who accompanied the Deputy Governor included the Secretary to the Kogi State Government, Mrs Folashade Arike Ayoade, PhD; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Ali Bello; Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo; Commissioner for Transportation, Victor Atuluku; Director General of Protocol, Kogi State Government, Mallam Suleiman Ibrahim; Special Adviser to the Governor, Prince Bashir Abubakar Audu; and other senior government officials.
The Kogi State Government had constituted the committee to coordinate arrangements for the former governor’s state burial, while the family’s pledge of cooperation is expected to support the ongoing preparations.
