Kogi Govt Sets Up Committee for Ibrahim Idris’ Burial
Kogi Deputy Governor Joel Salifu chairs the maiden meeting of the committee for former Governor Ibrahim Idris’ burial in Lokoja.
The Kogi State Government has constituted a high-powered committee to coordinate the burial arrangements for former Governor of the state, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris.
The development followed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s pronouncement during his condolence visit to the bereaved family in Abuja on Sunday.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Governor Joel Salifu, held its maiden meeting in Lokoja on Monday, where members discussed arrangements for a peaceful and befitting burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Salifu said the state government would work closely with the family to ensure that the former governor receives a dignified farewell.
According to him, the committee will also collaborate with the family on the return of Ibrahim Idris’ remains from the United Kingdom and the arrangements for his state burial.
To facilitate the burial arrangements, the committee approved subcommittees on Prayer, Mobilisation, Entertainment, Media, Venue and Protocol, Tomb Preparation, Finance and Security.
The deputy governor directed all the subcommittees to commence preparations and remain on alert pending the conclusion of arrangements with the family.
The committee comprises 21 members, with Mrs Ayoade Folashade Arike, PhD, serving as secretary.
Other members include Alhaji Musa Amodu, Hon. Ali Bello, Hon. Abdullahi Bello, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Halims, Comrade Jerry Omodara (Rtd.), Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Alhaji Yakubu Okala and Hajiya Rabietu Okute.
Also listed are Alhaji Suleiman Ibrahim, Hon. Atuluku Levi, Hon. Peter Ameh Mark, Hon. Tosin Lagba Olokun, Honourable Emma Egwu, Barrister Kabiru, Elder Friday Sani Makama, Alhaji Tenimu Idris, Alhaji Yahaya Karaku, Alhaji Mamudu Alfa and Honourable Bashir Audu.
The committee is expected to continue working with the family as arrangements are finalised for the return of the former governor’s remains and his burial in Kogi State.
