Gegu Named Best Commissioner for Youth Empowerment »

Kogi State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu, has been recognised as the Best Performing Commissioner on Youth Empowerment Programmes in the North Central Region by Democracy Newsline Newspaper.

According to the newspaper, the recognition was based on Gegu’s contributions to youth empowerment, skills development, economic inclusion and community-oriented initiatives aimed at creating opportunities for young people to become self-reliant and productive.

Democracy Newsline said the recognition of the commissioner forms part of its annual assessment and recognition of public officials whose programmes and activities demonstrate contributions to governance and human capital development.

The newspaper said Gegu has been associated with initiatives focused on youth empowerment, grassroots development and increased economic participation among young people in Kogi State, as part of the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

It noted that youth empowerment programmes remain an important component of sustainable development, particularly in the North Central region, where young people constitute a significant proportion of the population.

According to the publication, effective youth empowerment programmes should go beyond financial assistance to include skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, access to economic opportunities and the creation of an enabling environment for young people to contribute meaningfully to society.

The recognition, Democracy Newsline said, is an acknowledgement of Gegu’s public service efforts and involvement in initiatives targeted at improving the socio-economic wellbeing of youths.

The award is expected to be formally presented to the commissioner as part of the newspaper’s activities recognising personalities and public servants for their contributions to governance and development.

Democracy Newsline in its publication congratulated Engr. Abubakar Bashir Gegu on the recognition and described it as a call for sustained commitment to youth development and inclusive governance within Kogi State and Nigeria at large.
