Joseph Erico Pays Last Respect as Former Kogi Governor Ibrahim Idris Is Buried
Chief Dr Joseph Ameh Erico pays his last respects at the burial of former Kogi Governor Ibrahim Idris in Abuja.
Chief Joseph Ameh Erico, the APC candidate for Kogi East Senatorial District, on Friday joined political leaders, family members, friends and other dignitaries at the funeral of former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who was buried in Abuja.
Erico attended the funeral prayers at the National Mosque, Abuja, before proceeding to the Gudu Cemetery, where the remains of the former governor were interred in accordance with Islamic rites.
The former governor’s burial followed his death at the age of 77 in the United Kingdom on September 20, 2026. He governed Kogi State from 2003 until January 2012.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Hon. Matthew Ochada, Erico acknowledged Ibrahim Idris’s years of public service and his contributions to the political development of Kogi State.
He described the death of the former governor as a loss to Kogi State and Nigeria, while extending his condolences to the deceased’s family, friends, associates and other mourners.
Erico urged the bereaved family to draw solace from the life of service lived by the former governor and the memories he left behind.
He also prayed that Almighty Allah would forgive the shortcomings of Ibrahim Idris, accept his good deeds and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
The APC Kogi East candidate was among dignitaries who attended the burial, including Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and former Governor Yahaya Bello. The Kogi State Government had earlier confirmed that Ibrahim Idris was buried at the Gudu Cemetery in Apo, Abuja, following funeral prayers at the National Mosque.
The burial brought together political leaders, government officials, family members, associates and sympathisers to pay their final respects to the former governor.
