Ukomu Igala Celebrates Nigeria at 66, Reaffirms Commitment to National Unity
Ukomu Igala Organization President Major General James Ataguba (Rtd) has reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to Nigeria’s unity as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Ukomu Igala Organization (UIO) Worldwide has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s unity, peace and progress as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
In a statement signed by its President, Major General James Ataguba (Rtd), the organisation said the anniversary provides an opportunity for reflection on Nigeria’s journey and renewed commitment to the ideals of nation-building.
The Ukomu Igala Organization said the Igala people had remained active stakeholders in the Nigerian project through contributions to national security, public service, commerce, education, culture and nation-building.
It reaffirmed what it described as its “undiluted loyalty” to Nigeria and commitment to preserving the country’s peace, unity and progress.
The organisation also acknowledged the contributions of past and present leaders and Nigerians to the country’s development, while noting the ongoing economic and structural reforms of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
UIO said the reforms were being undertaken amid difficult circumstances, particularly in efforts to strengthen the economy and public institutions, expand social infrastructure, attract investment and establish the basis for sustainable development.
However, the organisation said Nigeria continued to face challenges including multidimensional poverty, insecurity and deterioration of social amenities, particularly at the grassroots.
It urged the government to take practical steps to improve the welfare of Nigerians, warning that addressing those challenges was important to sustaining current reform efforts.
“As patriotic citizens, we urge all Nigerians to remain united in purpose, hopeful in spirit, and committed to the collective task of nation-building,” Ataguba said.
He also stressed that the responsibility for building Nigeria’s future should not rest solely on government, but required shared commitment, sacrifice, hard work and patriotism from citizens.
The Ukomu Igala Organization said Nigeria’s diversity should remain a source of strength and called on citizens to maintain hope in the country’s future.
“At 66, Nigeria stands not merely as a nation of over two hundred million people but as a beacon of hope for Africa and the Black race,” the statement said.
The organisation congratulated Nigerians on the 66th Independence Anniversary and prayed for peace, stability, prosperity and continued progress in Nigeria and Kogi State.
The Ukomu Igala Organization is a socio-cultural organisation representing Igala interests and has previously called for greater unity, community security and development in Kogi and beyond.
