Kogi State Deputy Governor Joel Salifu has urged residents of Itobe and other communities in Ofu Local Government Area to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidates in the 2027 elections.
Salifu made the call on Saturday at an APC mobilisation meeting in Itobe, where he highlighted ongoing and proposed government projects in the area and appealed for stronger grassroots support for the party.
The deputy governor listed school renovations, primary healthcare facilities, security interventions and solar power projects among government interventions across Ofu Local Government Area.
He said the administration was planning to extend the solar power project to Ejule, Ugwolawo and Itobe, while promising to present other needs raised by the community to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.
Salifu said the turnout at the meeting demonstrated Itobe’s capacity to mobilise substantial support for the APC, urging residents to increase their backing for the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
He also called on the people to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other APC candidates, including Joseph Ameh Erico, Victor Uchola, Mohammed Lawal Musa and Isah Emeje.
The deputy governor urged residents of Kogi East and Igala communities to remain aligned with the APC, arguing that support for the governing party would facilitate further development in the district.
He also expressed confidence that Ofu would support the APC in the elections and cautioned against politicians whom he accused of returning to grassroots communities only during election periods.
Other speakers at the APC mobilisation meeting included Hon. Shehu Ahmodu Seidu, Hon. Mohammed Lawal Musa, Hon. Ndamodu Alih, Alhaji Muhammed Danladi Uloko and Hajia Laruba Ukwenya.
They called for increased mobilisation for the APC while drawing attention to development needs in Itobe.
APC candidate for Idah Federal Constituency, Hon. Victor Uchola, said he would represent the interests of the constituency if elected and urged party supporters to mobilise voters across the various polling units.
The meeting comes amid wider APC mobilisation activities in Kogi East ahead of the 2027 elections. The party’s Kogi East senatorial candidate, Joseph Ameh Erico, began a mobilisation tour of the district in September, with Salifu leading the delegation through Idah, Ejule, Anyigba and Ankpa.
Earlier in May, Ofu also witnessed the reception of hundreds of defectors from opposition parties into the APC during an event held in Ejule, according to the Kogi State Government and media reports.
Salifu had also previously engaged stakeholders in Itobe over development concerns, including healthcare, roads, water and electricity, with community representatives calling for further government intervention.
