Kogi NYCN Secretary Hails Idris Asiru, Urges Greater Investment in Youth Digital Skills

Kogi NYCN Secretary General Abdullahi Ismaila Abdulkadir calls for investment in Kogi youth digital skills.

NYCN Kogi Secretary General, Amb. Abdullahi Ismaila Abdulkadir, urges greater investment in technology, digital skills and youth empowerment across the state.

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, has called for increased investment in youth digital skills, technology and entrepreneurship, urging government agencies, private sector stakeholders and development partners to expand opportunities across the state’s 21 local government areas.

The council’s Secretary General, Amb. Abdullahi Ismaila Abdulkadir (Smile), made the call while commending the Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Development, Mukadam Asiwaju Asiru Idris, for his technology-driven approach to youth advancement.

Abdulkadir said investment in technology and digital education was essential to preparing young people for opportunities in the modern economy, noting that access to relevant skills and innovation could strengthen economic participation and support sustainable development.

He stressed that youth development should go beyond political affiliations and focus on practical initiatives that equip young people with the capacity to become economically independent.

According to him, digital literacy, information technology, entrepreneurship, innovation and vocational training should receive greater attention from government institutions and other stakeholders.

The NYCN official also urged authorities and development partners to ensure that youth empowerment programmes reach all 21 local government areas of Kogi State, particularly rural communities that risk being left behind in the digital transformation process.

He maintained that young people should have equal opportunities to acquire relevant skills, develop their talents and contribute to the state’s development, regardless of their backgrounds or locations.

“The future of Kogi State cannot be secured without deliberate investment in its young people,” Abdulkadir said.

“Our youths do not merely need promises; they need access to opportunities, relevant skills, mentorship, technological resources and an enabling environment to thrive.

“When we invest in our youths, we invest in the economic strength, innovation and future prosperity of our state.”

Abdulkadir further encouraged young people to embrace innovation, acquire relevant digital skills, develop entrepreneurial mindsets and take advantage of legitimate opportunities to improve their livelihoods.

He urged them to take an active role in their personal development rather than remain passive observers of changes in technology and the economy.

The NYCN Secretary General reaffirmed his commitment to engaging government institutions, private organisations and other stakeholders to promote policies and programmes that address the needs and aspirations of young people.

He also called for sustained collaboration with Asiru Idris and other relevant stakeholders, emphasising the need for measurable action to ensure that technology-driven youth development initiatives produce tangible benefits across Kogi State.

He said youth development should translate into practical outcomes, including improved skills, access to opportunities, innovation, employment and better prospects for young people.
