APC in Kogi drains opposition parties of members as it receives droves of decampees

The fortunes of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has continued to grow as more members of other political parties and groups have swell its ranks.

In an elaborate ceremony held on Sunday at the Lokoka Township Stadium, members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP),  the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the famous Kwankwasiyya Nationwide body and others all formally collapsed their structures for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

They pointed out the exemplary leadership style of Governor Yahaya Bello as the reason for their decisions to ditch their old political parties.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yahaya Bello promised to sustain the delivery of good governance to Kogi State as that was the only way to justify the attraction of people into the ruling party.

Governor Bello noted that his administration has brought about unity among various ethnic and religious groups in the state, a situation that was a far cry from what obtained under previous governments.

“There is no longer the issue of Igala, Okun or Ebira in Kogi State any longer because we know as youths, immediately we came into power, there was the need to disabuse the minds of our people. It is that unity that has pushed us into the level of progress we have achieved.”

He assured them of his resolve to ensure that APC wins all elections at all levels in 2019, adding that it was through such a record that the level of support the party enjoyed would become meaningful.

“I want to assure you that by the grace of God, APC will win twenty-five over twenty-five for the State House of Assembly; three over three for the Senate; nine over nine for the Federal House of Representatives and rank among the states that would give President Muhammadu Buhari the highest number of votes in the Presidential election.”

The Governor, while urging all the decampees to return to their wards to canvass for votes for the APC, urged old members to treat the new ones as equals and carry them along in the scheme of things as the party does not discriminate its members.

He assured them of his determination to provide relevant tools to make their decision to join the party worth it.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon Edward Onoja had earlier described the occasion as a testament to the realization by members of the opposition parties of Governor Bello's unique governance style, saying evevry success has several relatives as many associate with it, unlike failure.

He said the event served as marker to gauge APC's performances at both national and at the level of the state.

Other who spoke at the occasion included the speaker of the state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Matthew Kolawole; the Chairmen of the state Elders Advisory Council for the Eastern and Central Senatorial Districts, Alhaji Yahaya Karaku and Alhaji Ibrahim Linco Ocheje, among others. They all praised the leadership qualities of Governor Bello and urged the people to support him and the party in next year's election.

Business mogul, hotelier and philanthropist, Hon Haruna Gowon Paul (IJN) who spoke on behalf of the decampees, lauded the Governor for his efforts at revamping the potentials of the state through policies that have positive bearings on the people.
