Bello applauds legislative output in the last three years

Kogi state Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello has applauded the Legislative arm of the State for their productive output in the last three years of their law making duties.

He made this remark today at the 3rd anniversary of the inauguration of the Kogi State House of Assembly, which marked the end of the third legislative session.

The Governor comended the Legislative arm, as partners with other arms of the government in standing by the people of the state.

The Governor while felicitating with the legislatures, thanked them greatly for weathering the storms of discord with maturity, and overcoming the constraints of inadequate funding with graciousness.

Governor Bello stated that the Kogi House of Assembly have differentiated itself from legislatures who are always in conflict with their Executive arm to dislodge good governance.

In his own words, he said “There are legislators who interpret the Principle of Separation of Powers to mean senseless and intractable conflicts with the Executive. Others believe the role of the Legislature is to turn government upside down via misconceived activism without considering the adverse impact of a government in turmoil on the welfare of citizens. The Kogi State House of Assembly is not among these”

He mentioned further that, the New Direction Administration of which, the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, are equal partners has enthroned the virtues of Respect for the Principle of Separation of Powers and the Autonomy of all Three Arms of Government

The state Governor who on the occasion presented six bills to the assembly, appealed with the legislators to always hasten passage of bills, most importantly that which have concerns with the health of the people of the state.

The Assembly members through their representatives from constituencies took their turn to applaud the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello for his steadfastness in delivering democratic dividends to the people of the State.

From the Central constituencies, majority leader of the house, Hon. Abdullahi Bello representing Ajaokuta constituency pointed out that the state has witnessed large infrastructural boost since the inception of Governor Bello's Administration and further encouraged the Governor to do more.

The East region through the deputy speaker of the Assembly, Hon Hassan Abdullahi

acknowledged that the effort which the state Governor has made in the area of security have yielded positive results.

He further asserted that the results produced have become evident in the peace which the state have experienced in the years of his administration, pointing out that the peaceful conduct of the recently concluded All Progressive Congress' party congresses was a testament. Hon Abdullahi commended the governor for his quick intervention into the recent crisis in Dekina and Bassa Local Government areas and the setting up of Judicial commissioner of enquiry to ascertain both the emmidiate and remote cause of the crisis. 

The Deputy Speaker however pointed out some issues which require urgent attention, top of which was flooding incidences in the region and advised the Governor to take quick steps in ensuring that such occurence were laid to rest.

Representing the legislative members from the West Constituencies, Hon. Musa Jimoh appraised the Governor for his leadership roles, stating that the constituency as a whole enjoys peace. He also lauded the Governor's effort in revolutionising the Agricultural sector in the state which had created Job opportunities for the youths.

During the third Legislative session, the Arm received a total of 16bills, passed 5 into law, while 11 were in various committee stages. The assembly would resume legislative duties on 31 July, after a brief reccess.
