Army officials have reported the demise of the father of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Tukur Buratai, Mallam Yusuf Buratai who passed away in the early hours of Friday.

The Late patriarch, was hospitalised days before his demise after he had a successful operation at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) but had a relapse.

Speaking with newsmen in Maiduguri, Army spokesperson Brig Gen S.k Usman said that “Good morning all, inali lahi, wahi nalihahirujihu. This is to inform you of the passing away of the father of the Chief of Army Staff, Alhaji Buratai Yusuf, this (Friday) morning in Maiduguri.”

Late Yusuf Buratai, who was also a soldier in his early days, was a non-commissioned officer in the West Africa Frontier Force. He was survived by 14 children; amongst them was the COAS Tukur Buratai.
