Chairman of Kogi NYCN Coordinators Forum redefines Youth Activism

The Chairman of Kogi State Chapter of Coordinators Forum of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN)< Comrade>

He said making unguarded statements and insulting posts on social media does not make one an 'activist' or a 'Comrade,' as it is erroneously beloved.

He was speaking when he played host to the leadership of Oworo Youth Vanguard at his office in Lokoja Local Government Secretariat on Monday.

Comrade Abdullahi stressed that being a Comrade does not involve insulting those occupying position of power, and called on the youths to desist from behaviours capable of causing disunity and threatening the peace of the society.

The Coordinator, who is also the Lokoja Local Government Supervisor for Works, Lands and Housing, lamented the prevailing situation where people take to making dangerous utterances, and described the trend as inimical to development.

Comrade Abdullahi urged the youths to employ constructive engagement of elected and appointed representatives at all levels, saying it is only through concrete activism based on facts that issues bothering societal problems can be addressed.

Assuring the group of his commitment towards presenting some of the challenges their communities face to relevant authorities, he urged them to hold their elected representatives to account on the need to press the government on some of their problems.

He therefore solicited their support for the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, who, he said, is trying to address age-long challenges that are limiting the development of Kogi State.

President of the body, Comrade Amari Christopher had earlier intimated the Supervisor that they were in his office to pay a solidarity visit to him and to express appreciation to the government of Yahaya Bello for giving him the opportunity to serve in his government.

He said the group was highly elated that one of its own, through a dint of hard work and dedication to advocating for the welfare of the youths, had been given the chance to be part of policy formulation in the Local Government Area.

Comrade Christopher therefore solicited that the supervisor took up issues that affect developmental challenges of Oworo Community, especially the issue of infrastructural deficit the community faces.

A stakeholder on the entourage, Adoga Yunusa, pleaded with Comrade Abdullahi to put the social challenges being faced by the area before government so they could be addressed.
