Echocho makes case for Ajaokuta-Oturkpo railway

The All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate for Kogi East in the next elections, Dr Jibrin Isah Echocho has appealed to the Federal Government to complete the 31-year-old abandoned Ajaokuta-Oturkpo railway in the interest of his people.

The railway as explained by Dr Isah Echocho while addressing a crowd of his supporters in his country home at Anyigba in Dekina Local Government Area on Saturday, is expected to run from Ajaokuta through most of Igala land in the eastern senatorial district of Kogi State to Oturkpo in Benue State.

The Senatorial hopeful, while thanking the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for completing the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line, outlined the importance of the Standard gauged lines to the economy of the country as enormous.

“If elected as a Senator of the Federal Republic, I will make case for the Ajaokuta-Oturkpo rail line which was started at the same time with the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line, to be completed by the administration of Muhammadu Buhari.

“The rail line would attract terminals to Igala land, and this would mean well for the economy of the people. It would attract structural and social development as people from far and near will come around the terminals to invest in housing and other sectors,” Dr Echocho explained.

He said the most difficult aspect of the project, which according to him was the Niger railway bridge at Itobe had been achieved long before it was entirely abandoned in 1987 by the administration of Retired General Ibrahim Babangida.

The two-time gubernatorial aspirant under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), called on his people to vote massively for Buhari so that he could “retain, maintain and consolidate” the implementation of his people friendly policies.

“President Muhammadu Buhari is God-sent. He is an embodiment of honesty. He knows there is nothing in this world and that is why he is living a humble life, even when he was a minister, Military Head of States, Petroleum Special Trust Funds Chairman and now president.

“Buhari still lives in his four-bedroom bungalow apartment in Abuja. He even had to take loan from the bank to build that house,” he said.

Dr Echocho declared that Buhari is invincible because of his sincerity and commitment to the progress of the country, which according to him was destroyed beyond repair for sixteen years by the PDP’s governments.

“Buhari was poisoned and he miraculously survived the poisoned which nobody has ever survived in Africa, and he was the third person in the world to survive the lethal poison. Is it not God?” he questioned.
