Governor Bello vows to bring alleged PDP Killers of Yahaya Umar to justice

By Muhammed Onogwu

The Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has assured the family of Yahaya Umar that his alleged killers, who are members of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) would be made to face the wrath of the law.

The deceased, Yahaya Umar, a young man was reportedly maimed and strangulated to death by some fiercely looking members of the PDP who came to disrupt the recently concluded Lokoja/Kogi by-election at a polling unit in Lokoja when it was obvious that the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC) candidate, Hon. Haruna Isah was winning.

The Governor who gave the assurance on Wednesday to bring the heinous killers of Umar to book while paying a condolence visit to the family of the deceased and the Maigari of Lokoja, declared that his efforts in restoring peace and security to the once volatile Kogi State could not be scuttled by any person or group of persons, not matter how highly placed they might be.

“I have said repeatedly that killers and other criminals have no home anywhere in Kogi State. I will take this case as a personal battle; and I will make sure that those who killed your son and their sponsors will be prosecuted, convicted and sentenced in accordance with the laws of the land,” Governor Bello said.

He described the death of young Umar as a great tragedy and urged the family to pray to Allah to have mercy on his soul.

In his reaction, the father of the deceased, Alhaji Isah Umar thanked the Governor for sympathising with his family for the death of Yahaya Umar and prayed to Allah to change the hearts of those who killed his son.
