KGSG asks paramount ruler to provide site for 129 NA battalion cantonment in Anyigba

The Kogi State Government has requested the Ogohi of Anyigba, Alhaji Abu Shaibu Okolo to make a large expanse available for a cantonment of the 129 battalion of the Nigerian Army (NA) to be sited in the university town.

The Kogi State Director General (DG) for Lands and Housing Services Bureau, Hajiya Mariam Ladi Ibrahim who made this request on behalf of the government at the paramount ruler’s palace in Anyigba on Tuesday, urged the Ogohi to assist the government with 250 hectares of land needed by the Nigerian Army for the establishment of 129 Battalion to be located in Anyigba.

The statement from the Bureau Media Team revealed that the Director-General who was ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Alhaji A. A. Akowe, said “the establishment of the Nigerian Army Battalion at Anyigba will further enhance security in the State and Nigeria in general, as Anyigba is central to other Local Governments in the eastern part of the State. The Battalion will create an enabling environment for business to thrive, in return, enhancing economic growth and development, with other social amenities like schools, water and hospitals for the good of the people.”

Responding, the statement read that the HRH, (Alh) Abu Shaibu Okolo expressed happiness to His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for prioritizing security in the State for the safety of lives and property of the good people of the State. He noted that amongst the many good things that have taken place in the field of development, the establishment of the Nigerian Army Battalion will be the greatest thing that has ever happened in Igala land and for the people in his kingdom. 

The statement further revealed that the paramount ruler also expressed his willingness to support the project in any way possible.

The meeting also had in attendance Mr. Nuhu Michael A, a Anyigba Community Leader and the Technical Team of the Bureau.

After the meeting at the Palace, the Chief and the team from the Bureau went out for an on-the-spot assessment of the proposed lands by the community for the establishment of the Nigerian Army Battalion cantonment.  

Amongst the places visited are Oko Opulega, Iyale-Abejukolo road, Anyigba and Owolo Ofugolo. After the assessment of the above places, the team concluded that Oko Opulega, Iyale-Abejukolo road, Anyigba will be the best place to site the project.

The statement further read that the Permanent Secretary of Lands and Housing Services Bureau, Alhaji A.A Akowe appreciated the Chief for his support and willingness to be part of the growth and development of Kogi East, stating that the New Direction Government of His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello will stop at nothing to ensure that there is peace, security and development for the people of Kogi State.
