The Kogi State Government has concluded arrangement with a federal agency and an estate developing firm to provide affordable housing for its workers on “owners occupiers basis,” official document reveals.

The execution of the housing scheme, according to the media office of the State’s Lands and Housing Services Bureau, would commence on October 25 on an expanse provided by the government in Lokoja.

The Bureau in a statement seen by InsideStory Thursday in Lokoja said the contract for the 100 units of housing estate was awarded by the Governor Yahaya Bello-led administration to Mahfas Nigeria Limited, an estate developing firm with the clause to deliver as scheduled.

The statement read that the Kogi State housing policy is being implemented in partnership with the Federal Mortgage Bank and the estate developing firm as part of Governor Bello’s effort to lessen the cost of accommodation for Kogi workers.

The statement further read that the government is in collaboration with the Federal Mortgage Bank to provide means of payment for the workers.

The Director General of the Bureau, Hajia Maryam Ladi Ibrahim, according to the statement, stated that Government has done everything within her powers to make life easy and meaningful for civil servants and the entire people of the State.

She pledged that the Bureau under her watch will not rest on its oars until the worthy legacies of Land Reform System in the State becomes a reference point to other states in Nigeria.

The Bureau iron lady further called on all civil servants and the entire good people of Kogi State to support the land reform project for the development of the State.

“It is on record that the State Government under the current administration started a Land Reform System in the State through the establishment of a Bureau called Lands and Housing Services Bureau under the pragmatic leadership of Hajia Maryam Ladi Ibrahim. This is to ensure credible investment to take place in the State.

“It is on this note that the State Government through the Bureau magnanimously allocated Land to Mahfas Nigeria Limited, an Estate Developer to embark on the development of housing estate in the state.

“The Bureau on 19th September, 2018, had a critical stakeholders meeting with an estate developer; Mahfas Nigeria Limited, Federal Mortgage Bank and the representative of Labour. The meeting concluded that Mahfas Nigeria Limited has concluded arrangement to kick-start the development of the Land allocated to it.

“The Managing Director of Mahfas Nigeria Limited, Alhaji Sule Salau noted that with the support of the Federal Mortgage Bank, the project will start without further delay, while the ground-breaking ceremony is billed for 25th of October, 2018,” the statement read.

The statement further revealed that the Estate Developer categorised the units of housing and repayment schedules of the scheme into 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedrooms.

“These houses will be acquired according to the stipulated template for repayments and grade level. The total repayment schedule will be paid in for the period of twenty-five (25) years,” the Mahfas boss said.

The statement added that officers on Grade Levels 04 to 07 will be allocated one bedroom flat, those on Grade Levels 08 to 10 will have the benefit of occupying two bedroom flat each, while officers from level 12 to the directorate cadre will have the privilege of acquiring three bedroom flats.
