The Chief of Staff to the Kogi State Governor has donated five hundred farm waterproof footwears to farmers in Ibaji Local Government Area to enable them to carry out agricultural activities this raining season.

Much of the area as InsideStory observes is on the bank of the River Niger and cannot be cultivated by farmers on barefoot because of the swampy nature of the soil in the rainy season.

The Chief of Staff, who shared in their yearly plight while on a visit to the area a couple of months ago promised to mitigate this difficulty by supplying them farm footwears.

Onoja who kept his promise weekend by distributing five hundred (500) pairs of footwears (rubber boots) to the people, said the exercise has become necessary because over sixty percent of Ibaji which is contributing significantly to the food basket of the state is waterlogged and muddy during rainy season.

According to him, the footwears would allow the people to access their farms during the season.

Information gathered by InsideStory also reveals that the decision by the Chief of Staff to carry out the gesture could be a resolve from his last visit to the community.

It was also gathered that the gesture from Hon. Edward Onoja was unexpected by the people as they showered encomiums and prayers on him, the Governor and the New Direction Government out of gratitude.

Information sourced from the Facebook page of the Chief of Staff read in parts: “Once the spirit directs you to take action, never hesitate, my Ibaji people are great farmers. Governor Yahaya Bello is passionate about your potential and he cares.

“In every job, It’s safety first. The footwears are for the season and for your safety on the farms.”

The Chief of Staff seized the opportunity to present Dr Jibrin Isah Echocho as the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) aspirant in the forthcoming primaries to the people of the area.

According to him, “the most expedient thing to do for the Eastern Senatorial District is to send a mature man with great intelligence and patience like Dr Echocho to weather the storm for them at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly.”

Only Dr Echocho, he said could connect the dots for the people of Ibaji and Igaland in general, saying he has proven antecedence, character and love for his people to do the job.

Quoting his boss, Governor Yahaya Bello, he said; “Only very few men will go through what Alhaji Jibrin Isah Echocho went through in the hands of wicked and heartless men of yesterday and will still be standing with unshakable faith in Almighty God. Echocho is an undeniable definition of a great man.

“I know a man whose got these and more. Echocho is the man,” he stressed.

Hon. Onoja described Ibaji land which is one out of the nine Local Government Areas that make up Kogi East Senatorial District as a land and people that are an unbeatable combo in the diversification drive of the Mr. President and Governor Bello led Government.

“The yams I got as gift tells the whole story – Ibaji can feed Africa if they are helped to harness and optimize their full potentials”.
