Police Arrest Senator Omo-Agege after plenary

The Nigerian Police has arrested the Senator Ovie Omo-Agege for his role in the snatching of the mace of the Nigerian Senate.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory led other officers to effect the arrest immediately after Wednesday’s plenary.

Senator Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District of the oil rich Delta State was under suspension from the National Assembly before the ugly incident occurred.

His arrest, analysts informed InsideStory, would escalate the already sad situation, and said nobody should be allowed to show himself above the law.

They also blamed the President of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki, for his highhandedness and seeming resolve to use all means to silent any dissenting member of the senate.

According to the analysts, the National Assembly is made up individuals elected to represent the minds of people in all parts of the country and suspension of anyone of them amounts to denying the people of having their voices heard.

They called on all parties involved in the matter to put national interest above personal ones for the peace and development of the country and for the continuous entrenchment of the nation’s nascent democracy.
