Tension mounts as gunmen murder pregnant woman in Ekiti

By Akadiri Ademola

Unidentified gunmen in the early hours of Thursday gruesomely murdered a pregnant woman in Orin Ekiti, in Ido Osi Local Government Area of the State.

The victim (Name withheld) who is from the Tiv Tribe was shot in the head and hacked by the assailants.

This event resurrects the dying tension in the State that was initially caused by the death of a herder four days ago, as residents were thrown into despair as they suspected the recent occurrence to be a reprisal attack.

The State Governor, Ayodele Fayose had on Wednesday conveyed an emergency meeting between the Tiv leaders and Myetti Allah representatives in the state, where he appealed that the death of the first victim should not be festered to cause ethnic rivalry and assured that the culprit would be brought to book.

Confirming Thursday’s horrific incidence, Former chairman of the Local Government, Sanmi Olubunwo mentioned that another person sustained injuries and currently recuperating in the hospital.

He noted that the murder took place inside the Orin Farm Settlement, and could not be traced to any prior event, but it was alleged that the perpetrators were suspected herdsmen
