Youth groups laud Bello for Rural Electrification Project

Youth of Komgbani, Karara, Ijiho, Banda, Ohono, Akpnaya and other adjoining areas have applauded the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello for the priority attention he has given to the long time agitation for electricity supply in their communities.

Spokesperson for the youths and popular Youth Leader from the area, Comrade Abdullahi Adamu, who made the revelation in an exclusive interview said the gesture of the Governor for completing the project was a demonstration of his foresight and determination for impacting the state.

According to Comrade Adamu, the rapt attention Governor Bello gives to issues of development in rural areas of the state is capable of opening up the economy of the state to the larger society and the world at large.

He said, the Governor's wisdom in ensuring that rural communities in Kogi State get necessary attention through the supply of power would assist them in food preservation, improved socioeconomic productivity, create employment and enhance their overall life.

He added that such gesture would help checkmate the menace of rural-urban drift, which, according to him, adds more pressure to the economy of the state because those based in rural communities are usually eager to leave for greener pastures at the state capital, Lokoja.

“With this rural electrification, there is no doubt that when completed, farmers in these communities can preserve their farm produce and ensure they are well processed before being taken to the city where they sell them.

“The cost of such presevasion would be reduced and invariably, it would also affect the final cost of buying and selling while some of the processing activities would be done locally by those with the machines that would be powered by electricity. This therefore, can create employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed in these communities,” he noted.

While calling on the youths to continue to give their unallied support to the present administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello, Comrade Abdul said it was only through that way they can attract more dividends of democracy.
