Dr. OGBO Salisu Usman is a distinguished academician and accomplished administrator, who has made significant contributions to the growth and development of education in Nigeria.

Born in Angwa-Ogebe in Ankpa Local Government Area of Kogi State, Dr. Usman’s academic journey began with his First School Leaving Certificate in 1988, followed by his West Africa Senior School Certificate in 1995 and Advanced Level IJMBE Result in 1996.

He continued his academic pursuit by obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science from the Bayero University Kano, in 2001, a Master of Science degree in Political Science from the University of Ilorin in 2006 and a PhD in Political Economy and Development Studies from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi in 2015.

Dr. Usman began his public service career as an Administrative Officer at the University of Ilorin in 2003, where he served with dedication and diligence. In 2009, he transferred his services to Kogi State University, Anyigba, where he was appointed as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Political Science.

Over the years, he rose through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer in the same department, and he is presently being assessed for the rank of Associate Professor.

Throughout his tenure at Kogi State University, Dr. Usman held various academic and administrative positions, including Head of Department of Political Science from 2016 to 7th April, 2020, when he was appointed Acting Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja.

As Acting Rector, he introduced a series of reforms that led to significant improvements in the quality of education, infrastructure development, and academic excellence in the institution. These included initiatives aimed at combating examination malpractice, cultism, and social vices among the students.

Under his leadership, the Kogi State Polytechnic has achieved several remarkable accomplishments, including the construction of a storey-building for academic and administrative purposes, sponsored by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the successful re-accreditation of thirty (30) programs with full accreditation status by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).

Dr. Usman’s unwavering commitment to the development of the institution has also led to the construction of a storey-building containing offices, studios, and exhibition halls for the School of Art, Design, and Printing, also sponsored by TETFund.

Dr. Usman is a respected member of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) and a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administration (FCIA).

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to education, he has received several awards, including the NUJ Educational Administrator of the Year 2022.

Dr. Usman is a man of many talents and interests. He holds the chieftaincy title of ‘Omaoja’ Ata Igala, and he is considered one of the most influential figures from Kogi East.

His passion for youth empowerment and job creation has led to the facilitation of countless job opportunities for Kogites, drawn from all corners of the state.

Dr. Usman is a family man, happily married with children.
