In the contemporary democratic setting of northern Nigeria where women are still finding it super difficult to breakaway from their stereotypic household supportive roles, a few women have been able to chatter that which bounds them and made history. The Africa in us haven’t made us accustomed to the idea of women steering the affairs of a male dominant society, and as a result, we often fail to adequately celebrate those who have broken free from these constraints. One such remarkable individual is Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D.

Not very often does a traditional farming setting like as Ifeolukotun in Yagba East LGA, find itself in the position to bestow upon Kogi State one of its most precious gifts. Yet, amidst the humble dwellings and time-honored customs of this community, emerged a beacon of inspiration: Mrs. Folashade Arike Ayoade, Ph.D. Although her early years were shaped in the faraway ancient city of Ibadan, it was her intrinsic connection to Kogi that defined her character from the outset.

Even in her formative years, her aura exuded the grace and resilience synonymous with Kogi heritage. Her unwavering integrity and natural inclination to uplift those around her, easily marked her as a guiding light among her peers. It was this unique sense of duty and service that ultimately led her to make the life changing decision to depart from a flourishing career with the Federal Ministry of Health to answer the call to serve her beloved Kogi State.
