Benue State COVID-19 palliatives sighted in Kano market

The police command in Kano State on Wednesday paraded a man who was nabbed selling Dangote Branded Indomie Noodles meant for Benue State as palliatives, tagged CA-COVID-19 -Not for Sale.

Yusufu Abdullahi, 30, was arrested in Sabon Gari market selling the noodles.

Abdullahi had sold the good to someone in the Sabon Gari Market.

The person was arrested and after interrogation and Abdullahi was picked, police said.

The suspect said someone brought it to Kano and sold to them. And he does not know the person. “I don’t also know it was illegal buying or selling it,” he added.

Commissioner of Police, Habu Sani, who briefed reporters on the arrest, said: “3,850 cartons of Dangote branded Indomie noodles meant for Benue state as Covid-19 palliatives, written on it: Not for Sale, were diverted and sold in Kano.

“1,958 cartons, valued N4.1 million have been recovered out of the 3,850 cartons diverted and sold out.”

Sani, expressing shocks, said it illegal and criminal to divert or sell foods that are meant to alleviate the suffering of the underprivileged during the Covid-19 pandemic or any time.

It is not clear yet, how many cartons were sold to other states, as police said a further probe will be launched.
