Brief Profile of Hon (Barr) Cosmas Henry Ilemona Atabor »

Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Atabor is a seasoned Lawyer by profession and a passionate politician with consummate experience. Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas Atabor hails from Okpe-Adege of Ajaka Ward2 in Igalamela/Odolu LGA. He was born on the 13th of June, 1976 into the family of Atabor Idi.

He had his primary education at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Primary School, Markuri where he obtained his first school leaving certificate in 1986. The management of the school discovered a young brilliant boy with leadership potentials and made him the Head Boy.

He proceeded to the prestigious Bishop Delisle College, Lokoja where he sat for his O’level examinations and came out with excellent grades in (1993). Again, the management of the school acknowledged his leadership abilities and was appointed the Head Boy.

Barr. Cosmas bagged his law degree (LL. B), from Benue State University, Makurdi in (1999). As the President, Law Students Association of Nigeria, he initiated the formation of the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) & successfully mobilised all Kogi state students in tertiary institutions across the country to join NAKOSS.

After his years at the University, he proceeded to the Nigeria Law School, Kano for his (Bachelor in Law) in the year (2002). After which he bagged a Master’s Degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Abuja in (2010).

Barr. Cosmas has been a seasoned practicing lawyer. He has been a Principal Partner of the Law firm of ATABOR COSMAS AND ASSOCIATES since 2005, and member of notable professional bodies such as; Member, Nigeria Bar Association, Institute of Corporate Administration, and National Legislative Institute.

Due to his enthusiasm for service to humanity and deep affection for his people, Barr. Cosmas contested for House of Assembly elections under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in 2006, but lost at the primaries.

He once again contested for the House of Assembly as the flag bearer of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in 2015 and again, lost. For the third time, he contested for the House of Assembly and won under the APC in 2019 to represent Igalamela/Odolu state constituency. And then went ahead to represent the good people of Igalamela/Odolu Constituency credibly well in the 7th Assembly between 2019 to 2023.

While in the 7th state assembly, he Chaired House Committee on Judiciary, Justice and Legal Matters. He was also the Vice Chairman Establishment, Training, Pension and Public Service Committee. He was a member of Education, Science and Technology Committee. Youths, Sports and Social Development Committee. Economic Planning, Budget and Monitoring Committee. Special Duties and Legislative Compliance Committee. Physical Planning, Urban and Regional/Rural Development Committee. Ethics and Privileges Committee and the Public Petitions and Human Rights Committee.

Hon. (Barr.) Cosmas is currently the Transition Chairman, Igalamela/Odolu local government area to the glory of God.

He is happily married to his beautiful wife, who birthed him 2 lovely children.
