Bunu week: Gov Bello assures on continued prioritisation of infrastructure in Kogi
Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has said his administration will continue to place priority on the execution of basic infrastructural projects for its citizens.
Governor Bello made the remark at the 2019 Bunu Week in Oke – Bunu, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area last weekend.
The governor who was represented by his Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Hon. Abdulmumeen Ahmed Okara said the government out of its genuine intentions to ensure no aspect of the state was neglected sited the Omi dam rice mill, Alape project and the intended Sugar Factory in their community.
He said the government through its SDGs programme would swing into action to identify areas where it could intervene in their schools and health sectors.
The governor who appealed to the people of Bunu to continue to dwell in unity and harmony with one another added that his administration has succeeded in uniting the people and breaking class and religious difference.
Earlier, the chairman central planning committee, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd) said the 2019 Bunu Week celebration focused on human capital development and the promotion of Bunu culture and tradition.
Commander Omodara said the decision to embark on the celebration was to look inwards and identify areas where their people could be helped, also using government medium at all levels to bring development closer to the people.
“In the area of development, we thank Governor Bello for the approval to site Sugar Plantation/Refinery at Ike-Bunu, the Entanol, Alape Project at Odo-Ape and Ike-Bunu, renovation of Cottage Hospital in Iluke, donation of Ambulance, the recent approval for the renovation of the Cottage Hospital at Oke-Offin by SDG and the completion of Aiyede- Olle- Igbo electrification project.”
In his speech, the President Bunu Development Association (BDA), Reverend J.E Jembawondo who appealed to its citizens to get involved deeply in politics, called on the financially buoyant amongst them to establish companies in Bunu that could boost the socio economic growth of the community.
The 2019 Bunu Week featured a lecture on ‘Towards a Greater Bunu; Our Story Our Hope’ which was delivered by Professor Etanibi Alemika that unraveled the history of the Bunu people, struggles, threats and partway to development.
Award of hundred thousand Naira each to 20 students with outstanding performances in 2019 JAMB, Skill Training and Empowerment of 15 Youths, Skill acquisition and Empowerment of 15 Women, Professional Training in Photography with equipment for 3 graduates, overhauling of some schools and hospitals in the area.
Highlights were medical outreach, football tournaments, cultural performances, awards and amongst others.
Present at the ceremony were; the Speaker to Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Prince Mathew Kolawole, Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Folashade Arike Ayoade, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Hon. Kehinde Oloruntoba, Director General, Media and Publicity to the Governor, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo, ALGON Chairman, Alh Isah Taofeeq, Administrators of Kabba Bunu, MopaMuro,Yagba West and other government officials.
Others are; Obaro of Kabba, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi and the Olubunu of Bunu, Oba JA Ikusemoro led over 30 other traditional rulers, the National President, ODA, Barr Femi Mokikan and the President Kabba Progresive Union, Engr E Ajibero.
