Council of Muslim Youth (NACOMYO) confers awards on Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello; his CoS, Edward Onoja
The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOYO) in Kogi East has conferred an award of excellence on the state Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello and his Chief of Staff, Hon Edward Onoja for their humanitarian services.
The Awards were presented on Sunday at the Professor Francis Idachaba Lecture Theatre in Kogi State University, Anyigba during the 2019 Annual Islamic Summit.
The Summit, which was the 11th in the series, drew Muslim scholars from all parts of Igalaland and beyond, and the Governor was represented at the occasion by Hon Edward Onoja.
In his address, the coveiner and Chairman of NACOMYO in Kogi East, Mallam Suleiman Dansofo said the essence of the programme was to convene stakeholders in order to discuss and seek solutions to vices militating against the growth of Islam and Muslims in the area.
He bemoaned traits among the youths such as thuggery, hooliganism, truancy, stealing, religious intolerance and others, stressing that the body was disturbed about the bleak future such trends portend.
The Summit, according to him, sought to galvanise ideas on how best to provide solutions to the menaces with a view to ensuring a peaceful and egalitarian society.
In his address, the Chief of Staff to Kogi State Governor, Hon Edward Onoja revealed that some of the secrets of the successes being recorded by the present administration in the security subsector was partly due to the inclusion of religious bodies in the governance process by governor Yahaya Bello.
“You cannot go and commit crime if your mind does not conceive of it. That is why the present administration has continued to support both Christian and Muslim organisations by encouraging them to preach the positive messages of our faiths.”
