Covid-19: Kogi State Government close down markets

In a bid to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus, the Kogi State government has decided to close down major markets in the state.

The special committee to combat the deadly disease headed by the Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja gave this directive on Monday immediately after its inaugural meeting in Lokoja the state capital.

Enforcing the directive on Tuesday at the Lokoja International Market and old markets respectively, the Commissioner of Information and Communication, Evangelist Kingsley Fanwo said that the new order was in place to comply with the large gathering restriction order which came into enforcement in the state gave on 23rd of March. The state also suspended all religious and social gatherings in the state.

The committee maintained that the “closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease”.
