The Kogi State Government through the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo has assured that the abducted students of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH) will all be rescued on unhurt.

It was reported that gunmen stormed the University on Thursday night at about 9:00 pm and shot sporadically in a gun battle with security agencies but still abducted good numbers of students.

Speaking on the development in a statement issued on Friday by the State Information Commissioner, the State government said it is on top of the situation and in no distance time all the abducted students will be rescued.

According to him, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has activated the security architecture as soon as he received the report to track down the kidnappers, make sure the students are recovered, and catch the abductors.

He added that in order to secure the safe rescue of the kidnapped children who were taken in the classrooms, hundreds of local hunters who are familiar with the terrain are currently scouring the region. Nine pupils have been reported missing thus far.

He said: “We wish to assure students, parents and the entire people of Kogi State that the Government is on top of the situation and all the abducted students will be rescued alive. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has also directed that security agents be positioned around all tertiary institutions in the State

“We wish to commend the local hunters and other security agents who rose stoutly to engage the kidnappers. Their gallantry and dedication ensured that the kidnappers did not have a field day which would have been more calamitous.

“The State Government will spare nothing in ensuring that all the students abducted are safely rescued and reunited with their families. We won’t submit to terror. We shall prevail.”
