Dr Ottah wants parents to allow wards resume school on schedule to aid their education

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education Science and Technology, Dr Gabriel Ottah, has called on parents to help the education of their children by allowing them resume schools on schedule.

Dr Ottah made the call during his inspection of schools and assessment of resumption rate in the state Monday.

The Special Adviser who inspected 10 schools cutting across primary, secondary and tertiary institutions in 4 Local Government Areas in Kogi East observed that some students were yet to resume in some schools. He particularly lamented the poor resumption rate in Our Lady of Schools Anyigba and urged the management of the school to step up their efforts to encourage full resumption of students.

He said failure to resume early would have negative impacts on the students as teachers have already begun teaching.

He also noted that since the First Term 2020/2021 for primary and secondary schools was very short and would end on 5 March 2021, the students must resume to maximally utilise the period.

Dr Ottah commended the schools where resumption was 100%, particularly the Polytechnic Secondary School Idah, Sacred Heart Marist College, Ejule and Community Secondary School Ejule, and urged the students and teachers to exhibit hard work.

He assured them of Governor Yahaya Bello’s commitment to quality education in the state.

In their separate remarks during the Special Adviser’s inspection, Principals of St Peter’s College, Idah, Mr Jonah Zekeri; Sacred Heart Marist College Ejule, Rev Fr Paul Angulu (represented by the Vice Principal, Mr Samuel Okoro); and Community Secondary School Ejule, Mr Shaibu Umoru, thanked the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, for his courageous stance against the politicization of the coronavirus pandemic. They pledged their commitment to duties and full support for the growth of education in Kogi State.

They called on government to improve the welfare of teachers and engage more hands in teaching at the Basic and secondary levels.

Other schools visited by the Special Adviser are Ayegba Primary School Idah; LGEA Prim Sch Ajaka; Community Secondary School Ajaka, College of Health Sciences and Technology, Idah; and Kogi State University Anyigba.
