Gov Bello Flags Off 2022 National Sports for Judiciary Competition

…Pledges Increased Support for State Judiciary, Sports Sector

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, on Wednesday, flagged off the 28th Edition of the National Sports for Judiciary competition ongoing at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja, the State Capital.

He was represented by his Deputy, Chief (Dr) Edward Onoja at the event’s opening ceremony hosted by Kogi State and scheduled for sports teams from courts and other judicial bodies around the country.

Recall that Kogi State last hosted the competition in 2016 with this year’s sporting events comprising; Football, Basketball, Handball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball, Draft, Chess, and Athletics.

Performing the flag-off on behalf of Governor Bello, Chief Onoja welcomed the judicial officers, organizers, and contingents to the State, assuring of an existing security deposit to ensure the safety of lives and property throughout the competition. He described sports as a unifying factor as evident in the unity and peaceful coexistence as well as concerted efforts to tackle insecurity in the State.

“As you may have already seen, the first flyover interchange is a testament to our commitments to infrastructural development alongside our many gains in other areas of the Kogi economy,” he said.

He commended the judiciary for the sporting initiative and urged participants to exhibit spirits of sportsmanship whilst pledging increased collaboration with the judiciary and sports development to encourage greater participation to turn vulnerable youths away from criminal activities.

The opening ceremony which featured a colorful march past by the participating teams was also attended by the State acting Chief Judge, Justice Josiah Mejebi, State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Idris Musa, amongst other guests.
