Gov. Bello receives HYPPADEC delegation, lauds FG’s concern for flood victims

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has lauded the Federal Government under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari for its consistent show of concern for the regions often affection by the over flowing of hydro dams.

Governor Bello gave this commendation while receiving the Chairman and Members of the Governing Council of the Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), who paid the Governor a courtesy visit.

The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Chief Edward Onoja noted that although HYPPADEC had been established over a decade but the commission was enabled to properly function recently under the current administration.

He noted that the concerns of flooding could not be over emphasised particularly for regions who have their livelihoods affected by the yearly occurrence while he added that the activities of the Commission would go a long way to help cater for these affected areas.

The Governor expressed optimism that the Commission’s activities would yield positive stories in all the 6 member states and by extension solve the reoccurring flood concerns of the country.

In his remarks Chairman Governing Council of HYPPADEC, Bar. Joseph Terfa thanked the State Government for the hospitality noting that the commission had visited the other five members to engage and understudy their impact of the hydro dams overflow in their areas.

He expressed that although Kogi State was the last visited by the commission its agenda in all the member state was to tackle the ecological challenges of the communities around the hydro dams while it also sought to improve the standard of living of these communities.

The Chairman mentioned that their courtesy visit would be followed by the commission’s on the spot assessments of the various communities under concern.
