Gov. Bello’s administration gets pat for attention to educational sector, infrastructure

The administration of Governor Yahaya Bello gets a pat on the back as a university don, Dr. Usman Ogbo speaks on some of the policies and efforts of the government that have improved the standard of education and infrastructure.

Dr. Ogbo who is the Head of Department, Political Science in Kogi State University (KSU) gave the praise Saturday in Lokoja, on the weekly live radio programme on Confluence Radio FM 94.1 tagged; GYB Score Card.

He said eight (8) out of the thirteen (13) courses presented to National Universities Commission (NUC) for accreditation by KSU were fully approved.

His words; Let me quickly clear the air on the issue of those saying that the standard of education in KSU is nosediving, which is not true. Under this administration, in terms of accreditation, thirteen Programmes were presented to NUC and eight got full accreditation.

“Five (5) had interim, non had denial, meaning it is only when you have denial that there is an issue, there are only a few things to be done and in two years it shall be revisited and that’s like a 100% score.

“The department of Political Science which is my department got 92.6% score, Geography, B. Agric, Food Science, Home Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biological Sciences all got accredited.

“The others on interim are Fishery, Sociology, Industrial Chemistry, and Statistics.”

Speaking further, he explained that the institution had salary argumentation from the rein of Governor Ibro down to Wada which is not the practice in the New Direction Government, adding that on assumption of office, Governor Bello took up the responsibility of all payments.

“Governor Bello has done well, no more incessant strike on campus, where students spend up to six years in obtaining a fours years certificate. He summoned political will and stepped into the problem and now student of KSU are enjoying stable, uninterrupted school calendar.”

On infrastructure, he commended the government for constructing the Ankpa Township road, which according to him was left undone in the nine years rulership of a Governor from that axis.

“I don’t see anything wrong with coming together as a people for developmental agenda. We have had Igala leaders all these years, yet an Ebira man deemed it necessary to construct our roads. What development has these leaders brought to Igala land?”

“It is not about Igala agenda using the people to lunch yourself into power and then begin to divide them. Unity and development are all we need and the present government is achieving that,” he added.

According to the university don, the recent remarks of the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland was a further justification that the present Kogi under Governor Bello is on the part of unity, progress and development, without recourse to ethnicity which was the erstwhile practice.
