Governor Bello launches 2021 Emblem Appeal Fund in Kogi »

Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has launched the 2021 Armed Forces Rememberance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund.

This happened earlier this morning in Lokoja, the state capital in company of political actors, retired servicemen, corporate bodies in Kogi State and other stakeholders.

Governor Bello used the occasion to describe men of the security agencies as people the country could not do without and urged members of the public and government to accord them the regard they deserve.

To him, no nation could move forward without regard to its veterans and people in the service of securing the territorial integrity of the country.

While expressing sadness about the level of dilapidation in the nation’s security architecture, he said security men should not be dying needlessly and senselessly as they are reported in the media, saying the entire world would soon realise how capable Nigeria’s security apparatus is.

The Governor stressed that the welfare of uniform men should extend to their families and relations because if those alive see the way dependants of the fallen heroes are being taken care of, it would boost their morale and encourage them in their duty posts.

He urged members of the public irrespective of their positions to join hands to assist retired and fallen service men and their families to make life bettee.

He called on criminals and those harbouring criminal minds not to step into the state as it is not the right place for them to operate.

Govenror Bello expressed appreciation to men in uniform and even the volunteers and vigilant service men who have made Kogi the safest haven for everyone, saying he would continue to do his best to support them.

In his opening address, the State Security Adviser, Commander Jerry Omodara (Rtd) described the event as one marked to celebrate the fallen heroes who died in the line of duty whiel fighting in World Wars I and II, the Nigerian Civil War and other fights to ensure the territorial integrity of the country.

The occasion, Omodara noted was to ensure people not only wears the emblem but to consciously remember Nigeria’s fallen heroes and donate to the legion that are still living including their widows and family members.

Other speakers at the occasion which includes the Makama of Lokoja and Chairman of this year’s Rememberance Day Emblem Appeal Fund, Rear Admiral Ibrahim Dirisu (Rtd), the State Chairman of the Legion of Ex – Service men, WO David Salawu, all lauded the Govenror for the support former servicemen have been enjoying under Govenror Bello.
