Governor Ododo Hails INEC for Restoring State Constituencies in Kogi

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo of Kogi State, has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for upholding the rule of law and restoring state constituencies in Kogi, describing the development as a historic reaffirmation of justice and democratic order.

Speaking at the INEC Stakeholders’ Meeting on the restoration of state constituencies in Lokoja, Governor Ododo praised the commission’s leadership for acting in accordance with the Federal High Court ruling and the provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. He singled out INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Ampitan, and his team for their professionalism, courage, and commitment to fairness, noting that their actions have reinforced public confidence in the nation’s electoral system.

Governor Ododo also acknowledged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for appointing an election management leader of “impeccable character and integrity,” and commended the President for allowing the judiciary to perform its constitutional role without interference, describing it as a moment that strengthens democracy and restores hope for the people of Kogi.

Describing the restoration of constituencies as more than a political exercise, the governor emphasized that it is a victory for democracy, giving voice to previously underrepresented communities and reinforcing constitutional order. He assured INEC of the state government’s full cooperation, noting that robust security arrangements have been put in place to guarantee the safety of officials during their engagements and field visits.

Governor Ododo encouraged INEC officials to continue upholding fairness and due process throughout the exercise, and highlighted Kogi State as a model of security, hospitality, and development, calling it “the Kogi Rebrand Era.”
