‘I won’t take part in causing panic over Covid-19’ – Kogi Gov.

Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello has expressed that he would not be part of those causing unnecessary panic about Covid-19 for pecuniary gains.

He affirmed that the health and well being of the people mattered to his administration and as such would not be misused for selfish purposes.

The Governor made this known on Monday in Lokoja at a Covid 19 sensitisation program organised by the state Government for critical stakeholders in the State.

He pointed out that it was the sole responsibility of a leader who has been entrusted with the lives and safety of the people at this trying period to take decisions guided by scientifically researched knowledge and logical reasoning.

He opined that the common symptoms of Covid-19 which included Sore throat, cough, fever and others were not new in nature and as such the pandemonium attached to the pandemic were unnecessary.

Governor Bello revealed that the mortality rate of the Covid- 19 was comparatively lower than Lassa Fever which the state had battled with overtime noting that enforcing people to live in an uncomfortable lockdown was more harmful.

Governor Bello noted that the State has engaged in massive public enlightenment across various medium focusing on allaying the fears which has been attached to the Covid-19 pandemic and also adherence to proper hygiene, healthy eating and exercising.

He also pointed out that the State has also through its sensitisations encouraged strict observation of the WHO and NCDC Covid-19 laid down preventive measures and was also prepared for any eventuality

The Governor while charging the citizens to listen to medial directives and guidelines also advised citizens to always verify information gotten on the various media platform before they are believed or circulated.
