Inaugural “Loktown Connect” to empower young people in Lokoja holds

Young, vibrant, vivacious and convivial youths of Lokoja origin have for the first time, converged to mark what they titled; “Loktown Connect.”

The pseudo volunteer event was organised to network and help unemployed people to get employed and for them to also acquire necessary skills that would take them off the job market while cementing relationships.

The event which is under the leadership of a collective youth group witnessed entertainment from up-and-coming artists, jokes and other general entertainment.

According to the organisers, the event would become an annual one and would target the demographic for a sustainable development and ensure brighter future for the young ones.

According to one of the organisers, the time has come for people of Lokoja to begin to take their destinies in their own hands and the best way to achieve that is by working together, leveraging ideas and using it to empower one another.

Those present at the event gave kudos to the organisers, saying it had, for the first time, seen young ones of Lokoja origin utilising the power of social media as a tool for social change and urged for its sustainability.

According to Fatima Shaba, an up-and-coming woman canvasser, the event has shown that despite some negativity within the social media space, a lot of positive could emerge from how youths engage and network.

She applauded the ingenuous initiative and advised that they took it beyond the current level, by inviting more entrepreneurs that would help turn around the fortunes of the young ones.

More than one hundred youths are expected to benefit from the programme with the first batch set to emerge as a fallout of the inaugural edition.
