Kogi Assembly Endorses 2026 Youth Security Summit
The Kogi State House of Assembly has endorsed the 2026 Youth Security Summit being organised by the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State chapter, in a move expected to strengthen youth participation in peacebuilding and security efforts across the state.
The endorsement was conveyed by the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, when the Chairman of the Kogi State NYCN, Comrade Abdulrahman Abdulmumin, led members of the council on a visit to the Assembly in Lokoja on Tuesday.
The visit formed part of the council’s ongoing engagements with critical stakeholders ahead of the summit, which is aimed at bringing young people, government representatives, security agencies, traditional institutions, civil society organisations and other relevant stakeholders together to deliberate on emerging security challenges.
Speaking during the engagement, Speaker Yusuf welcomed the initiative and expressed the Assembly’s support for efforts aimed at mobilising young people towards peaceful coexistence and community security.
He noted the important role of young people in promoting peace and stability, stressing the need for greater collaboration between youth organisations, government institutions and security agencies.
Earlier, Abdulmumin briefed the Speaker on the objectives of the summit and the council’s vision of creating a platform where security concerns affecting young people and communities could be discussed while developing practical solutions.
He emphasised the need for youths to move beyond being viewed solely as beneficiaries of security initiatives and become active partners in preventing crime, promoting peace and providing useful information to relevant authorities.

The NYCN Chairman said the council would continue to engage stakeholders across the state to ensure broad participation and support for the summit.
The endorsement by the state legislature is expected to further boost the council’s preparations for the event and strengthen the summit’s relevance as a platform for youth-led conversations on security and peacebuilding in Kogi State.
The 2026 Youth Security Summit is expected to focus attention on the role of young people in addressing insecurity, community engagement, crime prevention, peaceful coexistence and collaboration with security institutions.
