Kogi Central: Ohere to appeal tribunal ruling

The Senator representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Engineer Abubakar Ohere has opposed the outcome of the tribunal judgment declaring Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner of the February 25 Kogi Central Senatorial election.

The Senator, who reacted shortly after the tribunal judgement, said the manner and process it went was not completely based on the position of the law.

The Lawmaker, who faulted the decision of the tribunal and that the facts of the law were not properly played, also noted that the process was not duely followed which has prompted him to seek further legal action through the appeal court.

Senator Ohere who was recently named the Chairman, Senate Committee on Local Contents, said he is determined to defend his electoral victory, noting that he is confident of reclaiming his mandate.

While urging his supporters to remain calm as they pursue the next legal option, Ohere said he will continue his legislative activities as expected at the red chamber.

Ealier, today the election petition tribunal sitting in Lokoja declared Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan as the winner of the February 25 Kogi Central Senatorial election.

The tribunal Chairman, Justice K.A. Orjiako in his ruling on Wednesday said Uduaghan scored 54,064 votes to defeat her closest rival, Abubakar Sadiku-Ohere who polled 51,291 votes.

He urged Ohere to pay Akpoti-Uduaghan N500,000 for the cost of the petition.
